Eyes Wide Open, Hair in the Wind

There’s something magical about watching a child leap into a river from a rickety old bridge. The world goes quiet for a second—then there’s the splash, the laughter, the squeals of delight. No fear. No hesitation. Just freedom.

When did we forget how to live like that?

When did we start trading our joy for responsibilities, our laughter for worry, our spontaneous dancing for calendars and to-do lists?

Children remind us of something we once knew: life isn’t just meant to be endured. It’s meant to be lived.

It’s in the way they run—hair tangled, barefoot, chasing nothing but the wind. It’s in the way they laugh—loud, unfiltered, until their bellies ache. It’s in the way they leap—eyes wide open, trusting that joy will catch them on the way down.

And maybe that’s the kind of boldness we need to reclaim. Not recklessness—but faith-filled freedom.

We spend so much time holding back—waiting for the right time, the perfect body, the green light from everyone else. But life? Life is happening right now. And if we’re not careful, we’ll miss it while waiting for permission.

So maybe today is the day you:

• Jump in the water even if your hair gets wet

• Laugh until you snort

• Dance barefoot in the grass

• Sing loudly in your car

• Say “yes” to something that scares you but secretly excites you

Let go of the need to look polished. Let go of the fear of judgment. Be messy. Be wild. Be you—the version of you that God made long before the world told you to be smaller.

Because here’s the truth: your joy isn’t frivolous. It’s sacred.

So go ahead—fly. Leap like those kids on the bridge. The water is waiting, and joy is ready to catch you.

“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 18:3
