Last week was a sobering reminder that life is fragile. News headlines, unexpected losses, and sudden changes all whisper the same truth: tomorrow isn’t promised. It’s not meant to scare us, but rather to wake us up.
So often we live as if we have an endless supply of time. We put off the phone call we should make, the “I love you” we should say, the step of faith we should take. We tell ourselves we’ll do it later—when things calm down, when the timing feels right, when life gets a little less complicated.
But here’s the reality: life will always be complicated. There will always be reasons to wait, excuses to hold back, and distractions to keep us from what matters most. If we aren’t careful, we’ll wake up one day and realize that the “perfect moment” we were waiting for never arrived.
The psalmist prayed, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). That’s not about morbidly counting the years—it’s about living with the awareness that every day is a gift. And gifts aren’t meant to sit unopened on a shelf.
What would change if we lived like today was the only day we had?
• We’d forgive faster.
• We’d laugh louder.
• We’d take more risks for the things that matter.
• We’d worry less about people’s opinions and more about living out our calling.
Living with urgency doesn’t mean living recklessly—it means living intentionally. It means waking up with gratitude, showing up for the people we love, and refusing to waste our time on things that don’t lead to life and joy.
So let me encourage you today: Don’t wait. Don’t hold back. Don’t waste precious hours scrolling through distractions or carrying grudges that only weigh you down.
Live today with courage. Speak life into others. Hug tighter. Pray bolder. Love deeper.
Because we don’t know how much time we have—but we do know Who holds it. And with Him, we can make every moment count.
